I am thinking of building a small aquarium to fit a particular space. I am wondering what is the best sealant to use. Has anyone here built thier own tanks? I didn't find much of anything on either homemade aquariums or sealants in my search.

The dimensions I am looking to use are 26.5"long, 11"tall and 8"deep.

Thank's

Cinthia

You should only use pure silicone sealant and clean the glass with pure acetone before applying.

Thank's for the reply Bill and Pat for the PM! :smt006 Great sites you found Pat. I used your search words and Googled. Found this sites too! http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/diytan ... _Plans.htm

The first link on this one is super cool. Just plug in your dimensions, select the building material and it gives you the approximate gallons, glass thickness. Also included is the exact cut measurements and materials list. http://www.garf.org/howtodoinformation.htm

Holly COW! Take a look at what this guy did. UUFDAHH  http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/man ... rsion.html

This fellow in Australia wrote a good artical in building aquariums. Good information. http://www.austinglass.com.au/aquariums.html

Amazing what changing one word can bring up in a web search.

Thanks,
Cinthia

Thanks for all the links. I've built a couple of aquariums, but didn't have that info available. When I moved I had to get rid of them. Here's a little tip. If you're having the glass cut by a glass shop, be sure to use new glass for the sides and bottom. But you can save a few bucks by having the top cut from used glass.
