Shrimp vs Shrimp

Hi everyone,

I have had two very odd cases with shrimp recently. I was over at a friend’s who had just received some new shrimp.
Some of witch where tigers and crystals (yes they are what they are, no confusion about the species)

Anyway she put in 10 tigers or so with six snow balls (the snowballs were already there) and a day later she finds all but two of here snow balls dead and the tigers taking down on of the two remaining snowball.

I had a hard time believing this until I saw case #2.

She but the two remaining snow balls with green and crystal reds that she also got in the same order.
So I sat down and watched the shrimp and here I see a crystal chasing a green shrimp across half the tank.

What is going on? Has anyone else observed this?

Thanks,

TKD

Dwarf shrimp do not kill other shrimp. It just does not happen. Only if (still alive) shrimp are very weak and about to die (could still take a few days or so) will shrimp sometimes start chomping on such shrimp. It's physically *impossible* for dwarf shrimp to kill another healthy shrimp. Try hurting another human being with feather dusters for hands....

Everything else is just what the observer reads into a given observation...I've heard many wild things over the years from dwarf shrimp sneaking up and killing little fish to literally jumping on and killing other shrimp. People seem to have an inherent inability to distinguish between healthy shrimp and half-dying (or even dead) ones.

By the way, when a given female shrimp molts, she will often be chased around by males of other species, too. If such a shrimp then dies (due to other reasons) right after the molt, a new "my shrimp chased and killed another shrimp" myth is born. There is probably nobody else out there who has observed as many different species of shrimp for as long a time as I have and I can guarantee you that you are mistaken about your observations.

Hmmm, I wonder why the two remaining snowbals are fine(including the one that was beeing "jumped)? The incedent with the snow balls happend a month ago now.
