Do freshwater clams, atyopsis moluccensis, atya gabonensis and the likes eat things like gammarus, scuds, etc that are alive? Can they grab them while swimming by? I was wondering if this could be a source of food.

No...they usually filter microorganisms out of the water. If there isn't much water flow, then they resort to looking for food on the ground like dwarf shrimp.

Yeah I see them fanning around all the time. I just figured that all those little bugs people consider pests could also be grabbed by the fans and used as a food source.
