Any idea what happenend to my amano shrimp?

Post by HoudiniShrimp »

Hi Everyone,

I had a single amano shrimp in a 30 gal tank with peaceful fish and live plants and it seems to have disappeared. So, the story is that we went away for four days over the holiday and prior to leaving the shrimp was doing very well, it was eating, active and climbing on plants, etc. We turned the light off in the tank while we were gone and when I got back the shrimp was still there but it had some algae growing on its shell and had also changed color sligtly (the stripes on its shell got a little darker) so I thought that maybe it was going to molt. A couple hours later that day I noticed that the shrimp was completely gone from the tank and is nowhere to be found since (its been about 2 days). I checked around the tank in case it jumped out but no luck (and no smells). I've checked under the rocks and in the plants but it is nowhere. There is also no evidence of a molt shell. Does anyone have any idea what happened to it. Could it have died cause of the algae on its shell? Could it be buried in the gravel?

Thanks
Mustafa

Unfortunately, it sounds like it died and got eaten by the fish afterwards.
