An upae ula fan from France

Post by Stalker »

Hi

I'm in France and I want to breed upae ula in my room. Unfortunatly, nobody breed or/and sell them in my country. Can I buy my supershrimps in the petshrimp store from France? Is it safe for them to travel arround the world?

Hey there,

Yes, of course it's safe. :) I've sent to France before without any problems.

Nowhere really, besides Hawaii. But the good news is that you don't need small hawaiian nerites. Most nerites sold for freshwater tanks on the market will do fine in Supershrimp tanks. Plus, I have a strain of Tarebia granifera (and even Melanoides tuberculata) snails that have been living in salty water for many generations...and they reproduce, too (even in marine tanks).

Many nerites need an old tank, about 6month old to find enough food in a freshwater tank. How many time i have to wait before putting my nerites in a brakish tank?

That's not really true. As long as you have algae growing on surfaces the nerites will be fine. That usually happens way before 6 months have passed. Just make sure that you acclimate your "freshwater" nerites slowly to brackish water (drip acclimation over a whole day or even several days). Don't just throw them directly into higher salinity water.
