First Death

Well this morning, I noticed I had my first death of one of my cherry shrimp. All of the rest seem to be fine and I checked my water parameters and they are all good. I did just put in some new plants a couple of days ago but I always wash them and soak them for a couple days before I put them in. Hopefully I don't get anymore casualties.

Yes, sorry to hear about the death. Besides the fact that shrimp sometimes die for no *apparent* reason (which does not mean that there is no reason...there is always a reason), they are quite sensitive to a lot of things besides the common water parameters that people measure. It's really hard to pinpoint the exact cause.

I would do an instant partial water change (do 50 percent) *without* using any kind of dechlorinator or any other chemical in the tank. If you have driftwood in there, take it out. Anything that could possibly decay should go. Then wait and see if there are any other deaths...if not, great! If there are more deaths, then we'll have to narrow down the possible causes further. It could be a number of things (including the substrate, fertilizer, too much food...etc.)

So far so good. I haven't had any other deaths since the one yesterday. Hopefully it stays that way.
