Are these whisker shrimp and are my Dwarf Puffers in danger?

Post by FlyPenFly »

These guys actually eat the snails that my dwarf puffers just completely ignore (they like me feeding them bloodworms too much I guess..).

Apparently these shrimp also hunt and eat fish?!

Do I need to get rid of these shrimp, I'm kind of shocked that a shrimp might be able to take down a dwarf puffer but maybe it can. I mean, we're not talking about a Mantis here.

I also attached a close up of one of the 3 that is carrying eggs.

That's Macrobrachium lanchesteri. Although this species is opportunistic and may grab and eat weak, fairly small fish if it gets the chance, it's highly unlikely that it will go for healthy dwarf puffer. Most things don't like eating puffers since puffers are poisonous to most animals. On the other hand, puffers love going for shrimp if the shrimp is small enough to be taken apart by them.
