Another new Opae Ula setup

Post by barrg »

I have a 2 gal tank....small rock substrate, lava rock, two sheels for CA...

10 Snails and macroalgae for about 2 weeks. Distilled water and instant ocean....

Just got my Supershrimp yesterday, and they are settling in.

Just curious about their behavior in a new tank. I am seeing a LOT of swimming. A lot of picking on the rock too.

Should these guys be so busy swimming (around the tank about mid-level)?

It sounds like you gave the tank some time to cycle before you put the shrimps in, so I don't think you have a problem there. Maybe a little longer would've helped, but I think I only did about two weeks too. Anyways, I'd only worry if they swam around frantically for days. Mine took a while to settle in whenever they first arrived. They do the same thing for shorter amounts of time whenever I feed them or mess with the tank.

Yes it is normal that they swim around a lot in a new tank. They usually swim around frantically when they are stressed or have been disturbed. This is perfectly normal;, they will settle in with time.

Sounds like they are doing good. My shrimp swam around a lot for about a week. Seemed like they were doing laps like it was the Olympics. Now they just pick at the rocks and sand mostly. When I add water every couple of weeks, they do the endless lap swimming for a couple of days usually. Good thing is they aren't scared and hiding.
