I am fairly new to having full-blown "shrimp tanks" but have set up some 10 gal. Tanks to keep them seperate and got some different neos. Should I put orange sakura and pumkins together? And same with red cherry and painted fire reds? So far they are all in their own tanks.

Since they are all Neocaridina spp., which *all* interbreed freely, I would not put them together if you want to preverse the specific color traits. If you don't mind a tank with all kinds of mixed shrimp, by all means, go ahead!

I, too, have been wondering about this. I take it that even grossly different color types, such as fire reds and blue dreams will intermix? In such a tank would culling be a feasible method for retaining distinct color variations?

Culling won't work. You'll simply end up with a mix in the end either way. Some colors may possibly disappear altogether.
