just got some neon green last weekend, they were still in bags, just arrived at the lfs.
but after a few days, some of the green color starts to fade way to yellowish brown.
now some of them only left a bright green line along the top, the body carries yellowish strips (like those on wood or malayan)!!
havent seen these phenomena appeared on the original neon green in my tank.... is this normal by nature? any hybrid reported between green and malayan (rainbow) (though without the four dots at the tail)? or are they malayan dyed in green solution to fetch for better price?
i feel like throwing away to prevent them (if they are not the pure neon green) from breeding with the original neon green in my tank.
pls advise.....

sounds like u're just speculating at this point. i'd advise waiting a little longer to see if they color out. there have been numerous other posts that attest to the ability of shrimp to change color according to water conditions. for example, rainbow shrimp change colors. i have only one in my tank... it was bright orange yesterday. this morning, it was a dull brown, and not it's back to being orange again.

ya, agree... they do change color sometimes, hope my guess is wrong... keep my fingers crossed, hope they are real neon green...
will update on further observation.
just wondering has any other forumers faced the same thing before on neon green (excluding rainbow)?

Of course it would be helpful to know what the heck a "neon green" shrimp is first.

I assume you are talking about the green Caridina cf. babaulti on my shrimp varieties page, right? If so, that shrimp does change colors (especially when not feeling well and stressed out).

No. They do breed readily if given the right conditions, but their hatchlings are much smaller than Red Cherry Shrimp hatchlings and they grow much slower. Other than that, they are just as productive.
