Hi All,

Amazon Frogbit vs Water Sprite.....

Amazon Frogbit sucks up all the nutrients (including ammonia, nitrates etc.)

How does it compare to Water Sprite?

Nice looking plant though,

I've never have water sprite, so I cannot comment. As to the Amazon Frogbit...I could not be happier with it. It grows so fast (and exports nutrients so fast) that I have to throw out a pound or two of it every week in addition to the amount I sell! It's an incredible plant and I love it! It has improved the water quality in my tank tremedously!

Do you trim the roots at all or just throw away whole plants?

I throw away whole plants. Trimming the roots would not remove any nutrients. The plants suck up all the nutrients and use it for the growth of the plant.

I guess you have to look VERY carfully to see that no shrimp are hanging on.

Yes...especially hatchlings and very young shrimp can be easily overlooked. That's why I shaked the plants before taking them out.

Does the Amazon Frogbit propagate quickly? Just curious because I will be getting 20 plants of it from you by Tuesday. Can't wait.

I'm new to live plants, so I'm kinda curious about this too.
So far I have java moss and I've ordered some "Taiwan Moss"

I'm curious, because I still have a hood on my tank, and the tank only gets artificial lighting, could I still use this plant?

Any other plants recommended for shrimp?

Yes, these plants reproduce extremely quickly under the right condtions (light, nutrients etc.). As I said above...I have to throw away a bunch of the plants every week in addition to the amount that I am already selling. Just like any plant, though, the plants take some time getting used to your particular conditions before they resume their tremendous growth.

My nitrate level is at 0 (zero) in all of my shrimp tanks...even the ones that have no plants in them. I assume the algae consume any nitrate buildup.

Hey Mustafa, I got my Amazon Frogbit today and it is just fine. I can't wait for it to spread out and grow those long roots like on your pics. Thanks for the great plant.

You're welcome!

The fine roots inevitably get damaged during transport, but the plant will grow new ones quickly. The plants will spread out and cover the whole surface before you know it once they get used to your tank conditions.
