I have seen what they call a mole shrimp at my LFS. Looks alot like a bamboo/wood shrimp to me. Well I was going to buy one, but was not for sure it was a filter feeding shrimp. Has anybody heard of it being called a mole shrimp?

"Mole shrimp" is a general trade name for many large African Atyids.

Well, I bought one from the LFS. It is a filter feeder! It does look just like a wood shrimp, feeds with its filters like one also. Apparently the LFS made a mistake in name? or do some African shrimps show the same qualities? Sadly he was getting a bit tore up by some of the blue lobsters and other crayfish in the same tank and he is missing most of his back two legs. Will these heal after molting? I couldn't see another one of them die in that tank, so I made the effort to save him. He is turning a nice red color with a stripe down the back..he was brown then green, now turning red the longer in the tank! I hope to have a picture soon!

There are several species of African filter feeders that I have seen in Tokyo LFS's. The largest was some 30cm long. I'm not kidding, we measured it! The shop wanted ¥12,990 for the thing.

Hi Ed,
What was that shrimp filtering? Small children and dogs?
You better take a picture of that thing if you see it again. 30 cm would make it one of the largest shrimp around and largest Atyid shrimp for sure.
