Crayfish Tank - sand or gravel?

I'm wondering what would be better for a Procambarus Alleni crayfish, sand or gravel?

They don't care...either way they are going to dig a little cave somewhere...or at least try to do so.

Ok because right now I have gravel that is white,blue,and green but im going to upgrade to black sand to bring out colors and promote digging, im hoping he will be happier with sand since I would think it would be easier for him push and excavate.

You're right it may be easier for him to dig around with sand. But there is no right or wrong answer in this situation.

Honestly, the very best for your crayfish would be a combination. That's how it typically is in the wild.
