Question about snails

Post by danzel »

Hi, I used to have 1 snail inside my tank. Recently, I added in another now the older snail keep attaching itself on to the new snail. And it just stay there then entire day. I separated them once and place them as different corners of the tank. After a while I decided to check back on them and again the older snail is attacked onto the shell of the newer snail.

Is there something wrong? This is the first time I'm observing this.

Sounds like you have nerite snails...a male (smaller one) and a female. The male is just trying to mate with the female...nothing to worry about.

Will the reproduce quickly and flood my tank with snails?

I don't want that to happen as the shrimps are the main characters.

If anything they'll just lay eggs...that's it. The larvae are tiny and won't survive in your tank. Just research "nerite snail reproduction" and you'll find out more.
