Salinity Range for Opae Ula

Post by Mech »

so i have my tank set-up and im not far off putting the salt water in, ive read the salinity ranges for these shrimp ie. 1.010 - 1.016 but the only place i can buy them in Europe keep them in a 1.018 salinity .. should i keep them at this level in my own tank or should i bring it down a little?

any advice would be appreciated.

Mech if you do not have the brackish water in your tank then your tank is not setup. I recommend to wait a good month after the water is added before ordering shrimp. That will allow the tank to 'age'. Make your water 1.016. These shrimp are tough and the small change in salinity would not be a problem. If you want 1.012 set your start at 1.016 and slowly reduce the salinity over a couple months. The shrimp are tough but like most invertebrates prefer stable parameters.

you dont have to worry, i have fresh water shrimp too and know about cycling tanks.

I added salt to make 1.016SG, and this is the PH without any rock in:

the ocean rock i have will go in tomorrow and will monitor the PH and see if it buffers at all, if it doesn't then i will look into getting some calcium carbonate blocks to do the job.

Great. Lets see some pictures when you finish your setup and pictures when the shrimp arrive.
