86 degrees F (30 celsius) and salt....

I am about to treat ick in my 29gal FW aquarium with:

- slowly increasing temp to 86 degrees F (30 deg Celsius) and
- dosing with aquarium salts
I don't do medications as I have read copper is lethal to shrimps.

I am concerned about my:
1 - Singapore/Wood shrimp: he's a filter shrimp, bright orange rummaging around as a happy shrimp
6 - Ghost Shrimps

My German blue ram has quite a few white spots I assume to be ick. As far as the rest of the tank: 11-neon tetras, 3-rosey barbs, 2-skunk corys, 1-pepper cory.

From my readings, the salt seems to be ok in gradual dosage... I'm more concerned with the increase in temp. 86F doesn't seem like it should be an unreasonable temp to ask for as my house gets that hot during summertime.... I just want to make sure. Thanks.

that sounds like the perfect way to treat your ich, just remember to do water changes every other day, and to be sure to vacuum the gravel well each time. and yeah, the 86 degreee temp will help speed along the life cycle of the ich and help you get rid of it quicker.

i know that works best for fish, but im not sure how it will affect your shrimp, however....

Thanx NFR.

What do the shrimp experts here think of 86 degrees F and salt affecting my Singapore/Wood shrimps and ghost shrimp?

Both shrimp species should be ok, but other shrimp species are not quite as adaptable to temperatute and salinity extremes/fluctuations.

Why not have a little "hospital" tank so you can separate the affected fish and treat it instead of treating the whole tank? In the long run it's much more practical.

Thanks for the info Mustafa. I actually should setup a quarantine tank... just haven't found a spot. However, ick generally affects the whole tank thus I am doing the increase and temp and salt treatment for the tank.

When the weather gets warmer, I think I'll be ready to order some red cherrys... I added the ghost shrimps (6) in my main tank to see if they survive the Rosey barbs first. I think I saw 1 being picked on and it didn't scoot away as fast as the others do... I quickly took him out and threw him in my guppy tank where I have 5 ghost shrimp total there now. The guppies can't seem to harm them at all.

I will post pics of my Singapore/Wood shrimp when I get a chance... he's a bright orange... sometimes I feel lucky cause all of other Singapore/Wood shrimp I see are more brown looking.
