Hi there, first time using this forum which has been recommended to me as the best place to get my new shrimp ID'd..

I'm a bit worried how large they're going to get and whether they'll pose a threat to my fish. Here are three shots of them ( they're all the same type )

Haven't posted in awhile. Anyway those look like macros. look like chamaeleons.

Also, yes they pose a threat to anything they can catch.

Hello !
Maybe Chamaeleons, Macrobrachium pilimanus, the body is very simillar - but the hands of male one are bigger na dhaving hairs on. Probably female one or they lost the big hand and it's just growing yet ?

Thanks for that. They were labelled as 'Indian' something but I haven't found a picture of any shrimp yet that has the obvious band across them like these do.

Just been back to the LFS to check and they were labelled 'indian painted shrimp' but google doesn't find any matches for that.

I think the best match I've found is the red-claw shrimp as the colouring seems to have changed a bit now they've been in for a bit longer. incidentally, I think they look identical to the first shrimp in rclover's earlier post.

It's definitely not a red claw shrimp. It's most likely a Chameleon shrimp (Macrobrachium sp.) as some members have indicated above. If it is a Chameleon shrimp it will turn dark blue to almost black with time.

Thanks for that. I've found a picture of a chameleon shrimp here http://www.fish2u.com/chamshrim.html which looks exactly like mine. I guess I'll have to get rid of them as I've got a shoal of cardinal tetras in the tank which I don't want to lose. :(

Hi !
They are really nice shrimp, but need a big tank. Better get informed before buy. You can ask, if anybody in your area would like to take them or brink back to you store.
