Breeding Supershrimp Quickly and Easily

Post by Ihaveshrimp »

Hello,

I was wondering how do you breed supershrimp? Is there specific food/lighting conditions that need to be met? And how soon after you get your shrimp should you expect them to start breeding? What rate to they breed at? Thanks!

Breeding supershrimp requires exactly the same effort as caring for them correctly, IME, and I think many of the folks on this forum will agree.

Here on Petshrimp.com, Mustafa has put together some basic care instructions: http://www.petshrimp.com/opaesetup.php

If you follow them, your shrimp will probably breed, assuming you have both males and females.

As far as how long it takes, it varies widely. Some people seem to have success almost immediately. I got my first supershrimp in 2005. They didn't breed until 2007, when they suddenly presented me with about 50 babies. They have been producing ever since, although production seems to fluctuate, with occasional periods without much breeding activity. The most recent batch hatched last week, while I was on vacation.
