Endangered list

Post by Jayjayel »

Hi,

I just read on PBS news that a couple of Hawaiian species got added to the endangered species list. One of them was listed as anchialine pool shrimp. I think that is our supershrimps. Does anyone know, as owners of something on the list, is there anything we need to be aware of? If I'm mistaken, please share as well.

Thank you.

Nevermind, found more info. It's another species I think:
"The shrimp, Vetericaris chaceorum, is known to occur in only five anchialine pools along the coasts of South Kona and Ka`u, the US Fish and Wildlife Service said today."

But it's good news that maybe now they can protect the anchialine ponds better for all things that live in/around it.

Thanks for the info! I was a bit shocked to hear that actually until you said that the shrimp on the endangered list is another species. Unfortunately, when animals are listed as threatened or endangered they are not allowed to be sold or kept as pets anymore. The rule is kinda rigid...so even if I breed 50 million of them, I can't sell them. I think there should be exceptions for cases like that. I would be more than willing to even re-introduce many of them back into the wild if needed (but not needed at this point).
