Today I discovered this RCS carrying eggs.
She is in an aquarium with four other RCS females and 15-30 baby RCS.
The babies are 12 days old and 6-7 mm. long.
Here's a picture og one of the babies with a female in the background.
What's going on?
Has one of my 12 days old "babies" mated with the mature female or is she carrying unfertilized eggs?

u didnt' state whether there was a male RCS in the tank or not, but based on your description, it sounds like there isn't. in that case, it's most likely that the eggs are unfertilized and she will eventually drop them. a mature female shrimp will continue producing eggs while she is tending to ones she's already carrying. as soon as one hatch is complete, she will have another batch ready for a male to fertilize.

There's 5 mature RCS females and 15-30 12 days old babies in the aquarium. Nothing else.

I thought the females will not have eggs on their bottom flippers unless they mated with a male and the eggs fertilized.
For a while ( 6 months period )I had 5 female Amano shrimps. I could see the developing eggs on their back but I would never see any eggs on their flippers.
That all changed after I introduced a new batch of male and female Amano shrimps into the tank. All of a sudden the ladies are all carrying eggs on their flippers.
That lead me to think that unless the eggs are fertilized they will just be re-absorbed by the female shrimp or just get pooped out.
Can anyone confirm this?

i don't believe this to be true. i've heard and read stories of egg dropping by adult females due either to unfertilized eggs or stress. however, there's no telling really since there isn't anything conclusive other than anecdotal evidence.

It took my cherry babies approx. 5 months before they started reproducing. I believe 12 days old is too young. Just wait 3-5 days to see if the female still carrying the eggs. If she is, then a mature male must be hidding somewhere in your tank.

Hi all,
I believe that male shrimp normally deposit’s a sperm packet on the female and the eggs get fertilized as they get deposited on the swimmertteres of the female.
All that would have need to happen is that a male deposited the packet before you got that shrimp.

They all look female to me.
But I'm not an expert, so I could be wrong

I have had this shrimp for a month, so that's a possibility.
Thanks for all your help

They all look like female to me. Is your pregnant shrimp still carrying all the eggs?

She dropped most of the eggs overnight.
She is still carrying 6-7 eggs on her flippers.

haha .... i am by no means an expert, far from it, in fact, but i'm starting to get a feel for identifying the males from the females. all the pix i've seen so far indicate females, so i don't know what that means exactly. sorry to hear about the egg dropping. not a good sign. good luck tho.
