Hello.
I will try a thing. I caught many Theodoxus fluviatilis, a freshwater nerite common in Europa. It's the breeding season so they have already covered all sufaces with calceous capsules Anyway, this specie is easy to breed and... Can tolerate brackish water in the range liked by Opae Ula, so I will try to acclimate some youngs to salty water.
List of freshwater snails compatible with opae ula conditions:
-Melanoïdes tuberculata (Mustafa)
-Tarebia granifera (Mustafa)
-Mieniplotia scabra (me)

Re: Brackish snail experiment
Hello.
I tried to acclimate a theodoxus to salt water over a night... It died. I think it need more time.
Next try: Potamopyrgus antipodarum!

Re: Brackish snail experiment
Take your time...i'd do it slowly over several days.
Re: Brackish snail experiment
Potamopyrgus antipodarum should be more resilient
Re: Brackish snail experiment
I knew Potamopyrgus antipodarum was kind oçf unikillable snail... and indeed it is. Yesterday I just put a snail from my freshwater tank to the Opae Ula's without any acclimatation (it killed withing minutes MTS when I tried)... And now its sliding around like nothing happened!
Re: Brackish snail experiment
Those Theodoxus are beautiful. I bet they would be a big hit if they ever get imported to the US.
The New Zealand mud snail is considered an invasive pest where I live. It's not illegal to possess them, but it is illegal to import/bring them in from outside the state.

Re: Brackish snail experiment
It's the same in France, but it's not "clear" in the law. I always tell people to NOT give this snail to others, to be very carefull with water changes and to warn people wich they give plants. Sadly most people dont even know they have mudsnails, they think they have just dwarf MST. But since supershrimp tanks arevery pecular setup with almost no plants, no waterchanges etc. I dont have moral issues about introducing this snail in a new tank.

Is your mudsnail still doing well in brackish water?
