Hi all,

The only shrimps that i know are available in the whole of Canada are Cherry shrimps and Amano shrimps. Are there no other species available ?
Why is that so ? Is it actually illegal to import them in ??

All those shrimps and moss are making me drool but i can't do anything about it !

Hi Kenny,

I've been able to find red nose shrimp as well, but it's difficult. They aren't illegal, but most LFS don't get them in because they are expensive and a lot of them die in transit. I don't know how close you are to the US border, but I've driven over to pick up a shipment.

Good luck!

Hey Janis

Where do you drive over to from where you are?

Hi Marge,

I have gone to Bellingham, WA a few times to pick up packages at the FedEx station there. I know that FedEx will hold your package at the station until you pick it up and I have heard that other shipping companies are willing to do the same. It worked really well because I could check exactly where my package was on the internet and I knew exactly when it was going to be in.

If it's going to be a longer time in transit (3 days) then I can just ship to a friend's house across the border and pick it up there, but that's obviously not an option for most people.

Going back across the border with the shrimp isn't a problem. Just give the border people the list of fish/shrimp that you are bringing across and tell them that they are for your "tropical aquarium". As long as there are no plants they will let you through (so you should really make sure the shrimp aren't shipped with java moss to hold onto, but, that being said, I've never had them ask to look in the bags). You may have to pay a duty, but I've never had to do that either, I think if you don't spend too much money then they just don't bother.

Also, some smaller LFS (like FinOMenal Fish in Richmond) order from Aquabid occasionally and they go to WA to pick them up. I've never asked, but they might be able to get shrimp for you that way too.

I hope that helps!
