Cajun Dwarf Crayfish - are they escapers?

I ordered some online and I heard that crayfish in general are escapers. I have a 40 gal tank for them and some other shrimp. If so then I guess I will have to get a lid for it, the original came with some really terrible lighting hood I threw out a long time ago.
