Suitable food to buy?

Post by TheMuggle »

Hello, wanted to buy some food when I eventually get some Opae Ula. Would this be suitable for them?

Generally speaking it is not necessary to feed if you have enough algae. If you do feed it only needs to be done every couple of months and very very sparingly. Those pellets look really big so you would only need a tiny amount. You could crush the pellet and sprinkle in just a small amount.

Wait and see is what I would do before buying any food. Your tank may end up with enough algae. Or you could always buy some spirulina powder and feed a pinhead portion once in a great while.

Personally I only feed freeze dried spirulina. I don't feed often.

Thanks! I haven't seen any algae growth yet so wanted an optional food source I can feed them once in a while :)

You can get Spirulina powder much cheaper than that. I got a package for $5 from a place called MVP Aquatics. I feed a very small amount about every 2 weeks. I never have any visible algae. Just the slime coating on the glass and other things. I might slow it down because my shrimp are reproducing like mad and I only have a one gallon tank.

Hahaha @sliphorn Good one

This is the same brand that i've used for years that Fuku Bosai recommended so I kinda just stuck with that brand. I don't feed much at all so it the costs are higher it really doesn't make a huge difference. It's what I use and I have algae.

Your tank looks similar to the underwater videos of their native Hawaiian habitat. Cool.
