Using RO Water with added Calcium Carbonate

Post by DrMadness »

I recently bought a reverse osmosis water filtration system that adds high purity calcium carbonate to create alkaline water. I was wondering if this would be safe or even preferred when creating brackish water for the Opae Ula aquariums? My tanks are currently using store bought distilled water so I would also like to know if it's safe to use this RO alkaline water for top offs from now on?

I may be wrong but I would think using it for top off would eliminate the need to add other calcium sources like egg shells, cuttlebone, or calcium rocks. It might cause the mineral content to rise over time though so I'm not sure if I would do it.
