Snails climbing out of the water/shrimp population

Hi all, recently I just noticed a few MTS have been crawling out of the water on to the glass of my tank. It's been running for a few years now and this has never happened before. I'm sure they were dead so I removed them. Any idea why this happened. Another completely unrelated question, I have this irrational fear of my tank becoming over populated, will this happen? It's 2.5 gallons and I can't remember the last time I fed. I just want to make sure that I won't have to do anything besides water top offs and a few trains of salt every now and then (because a very small amount will indeed dissapear). Thanks

My snails do the same from time to time, and don't know why. I have plenty more. The shrimp will self regulate the population. Water top offs are all you need.

Are you worried about your snails overpopulating or the Opae?

honestly either, but mostly the shrimp

I wouldn't worry. How many did you start with & how many are there in there now?

started w 20 shrimp and 10 snails. id say there’s about 60-80 shrimp now and like 40-50 snails.
