An interesting observation

Hi All,

I've read a lot of posts about shrimp hiding in the jungle of our tanks. I had a similar experience until this week, when I did a 3-4 day blackout to knock back algae. When I opened the tank back up to light gradually, the shrimp seem to have decided it's a safe world, or maybe they had the chance to fearlessly explore all the territory those days, because ever since, they are out in the bright lights on rocks and driftwood away from cover, with nary a thought about hiding. And it's not just one, it's all of them doing this.

I've even been doing major rearrangements to the tank, ripping up plants and moving stuff all around, and the shrimp just go in picking, picking, picking, as though THE HAND wasn't even there.

Just thought I'd throw this out for observation.

Shrimp can get "tame", too. :) You just observed it.

Hi Donna, loved your story, thanks for sharing it. :D It would be interesting to see if it's a permanent phenomenon and that should they become shy again, can easily be "re-trained," now that you've discovered the "secret," lol. Also, was wondering if they most likely follow the concept that if there are a few brave shrimp going out foraging, that others will soon follow.

This reminds me of the stories I've heard of raptors (birds of prey) following tractors of farmers tending the soil, as rodents and things are uprooted from their home and dispersed, thus providing a meal. Behavior is such an interesting subject.
