RCS Randonly Dieing

Post by jonathan03 »

I have bought 20 cherry reds and I have them in a 10 gallon tank alone. There are a few plants in the tank and the nitrates are usually about 10 ppm or less. The highest they have been when I tested them was 20. My ph is about 8.2 since the tap is 8.7. The hardness is high too, but I'm not sure of the number. The temperature is 78.

I am having some shrimp die randomly. They die one at a time and several water changes and days apart from each other. I have had them for a month and three died all over a week apart from each other. I'm just wondering what I can be doing wrong. Everything seems to be ok to me.

Sounds like chloramine poisoning if your tank is fully cycled already. Chloramine needs to be removed, otherwise it will accumulate in the water and kill your shrimp. It won't just "gas off" like chlorine, either.
