Starting shrimp tank

I’m starting of with a 2 and a half gallon tank. What is a reasonable number of shrimp to start with? I’m planning on 10 snails, a fairly large lava rock and a number of small lave rocks. I also plan on a couple of good size coral chunks.

It all depends on how many shrimp you want to be able to see at any given point in time. You can start out with 10 and let them breed and fill in the tank over time, but you will probably only see about 4-5 at any given point in time, especially if there are a lot of hiding spaces. In a 2.5 gallon I'd start out with 20-30 if you want to see more shrimp immediately.
