Shrimp mating behavior?

Post by Rubra »

So recently in my Opae ula tank I’ve been seeing a small shrimp (probably a male?) trying to crawl onto other shrimp, is this mating behavior? Just a few minutes ago I saw him try to crawl onto a female shrimp, but she ran away from him.

Well, maybe? You can't really tell until you see female shrimp carrying eggs.

Was there a freshly molted shell nearby? Mating occurs soon after the female molts.

It's pre-mating behavior. The actual mating happens right after a femal molts, and it's belly to belly.
