Tiger Shrimp pregnant help!

I noticed one of my shrimps pregnant today and after observing it for a while, she was dropping the eggs! All the eggs are dropped now. Is this normal behavior? I thought the shrimps were supposed to carry the eggs until they're hatched. Could there have been something wrong with the shrimp? Are there any related sites I could refer to to do more research on breeding shrimps in general?

dropped eggs=unfertilized eggs or excessive stress.

I was talking to the person who I bought it off and he told me the eggs will hatch and I should expect babies in a few weeks. What I want to know is, can the eggs still hatch if its dropped from the pouch?

Hi Nemesis, as far as I know, the mother has to carry them in her pleopods (swimmerettes) for about 3-4 weeks during which, she cleans and aerates them. So no, it's highly unlikely they can survive without being attached to the mom shrimp. And this is provided the eggs had been fertilized, as Fugly mentions.

I wish you better luck next time!

If you were to check the varieties page here, you would see that for the Tiger Shrimp variety -

"Completely Suppressed: Larvae assume a benthic lifestyle after hatching, i.e. they are miniature versions of the adults. There is no planktonic larval stage."

So, better luck next time, don't worry, they will spawn again.

Cheers
