hi.
got me 3 red cherry shrimps a week ago and now got a couple of question i hope any of you in here can answer.

1.
can i remove the cover glass without any risk of the shrimps leaving ?

2.
is there any algae the red cherry doesnt eat ?

i got a 32L aquarium and i have noticed they like the roots i got in there and also the javamoss.
they are often on my "Anubias barteri var. nana" and my "Egeria densa" and clean them off.
they are also often on my "vallisneria" and eating algaes but not all of it.

they go together with 5 "Paracheirodon axelrodi" and it goes fine but the fish gets alittle confused when the shrimps starts to swim instead of walking around

thinking of getting 2-3 more of them
they are on the move all the time.

Regards
Raven

Hi Raven, nice hearing about your shrimps. :)

1.) About the cover glass, you might have more of a peace of mind if you left it on, especially if it's not a disadvantage to do so. It'll also reduce the evaporation rate. I've personally never witnessed RCS "jumping," but then again, I leave the cover on (except for the lid when it's hot). I have at least an inch of clearance and the tank has an overhanging lip. A possible concern might be if your fish startles one of your shrimps or even vice versa (I've heard of fish jumping out). Another possibility is if the shrimp were swimming around in an agitated fashion if the water conditions were poor. It's up to you, of course, whether you want to remove the cover. If you do, I suggest lowering the water line.

2.) I've read that Red Cherries/other shrimps do not eat stubborn hair algae.

lowering the waterlever is not much of an option as its small tank.
more evaporation would only be good as i have trouble with dry air.

will se if i can find some net i can put over so no one can jump out.

have had one fish that managed to find the 3mm space between the cover glass and the front glass :(

from what i can se the shrimps eats on all algaes.

i got white thread looking algaes from some plants which they eat and green alage.

and yesterday they tried to chase away the fish to get to the fish food.
