this is the one i posted about earlier, in the discussion about australian natives. i was thinking that she was australiense. is this correct? what are the ideal water and tank params to house her? ie: temp, pH, hardness, tank size, tank mates, plants/rocks, etc. she seems to have eaten a couple of paratya shimp i also have in there, which is a shame because they're great little creatures too. here's a pic:

cheers for any info!

Hi Raggamuffin, yes, she is beautiful and wow, your tank is SO green and lush! Thanks for sharing.

One comment I would make about Macrobrachium in general is that they can be quite predatory, so fish and other shrimp are often not safe. Mine (probably M. Lanchesteri), had actually managed to catch a couple of my smaller Zebra Danios, which shocked me. So it's usually best to keep them by themselves, if they're anything like my shrimp.

Glad you're enjoying your shrimp! :D

How big is she?

You guys are crazy, I don't wan't to pick up my cherries using my hands when they decide to jump out, let alone handle this beast.

That is a good lookin' shrimp. Cool looking rostrum, beautiful oval eyes and body color patterns.

Keder, you're afraid of your little cherries?? :-)
Well, I guess I can't judge... I find Amanos kind of creepy to handle (not that I make a habit of handling my shrimp) because they're so crawly. Occasionally in transfer I do though... they are easier to handle in a cupped hand than a net they can crawl out of.

Then there was one large male giant prawn specimen that I stupidly tried to pick up out of a shallow holding bucket by hand (by the carapace, crayfish style). Their long spiked claws often get stuck in nets and fall off that's why. He of course jumped and pierced me with a barb near his eyes. Minor... hardly noticed the little wound a day later. It could have been worse and I learned my lesson!

I wouldn't have trouble with putting my hand in the tank and letting my shrimp sit on it. But for some reason I don't like picking them up outside of the tank. Don't know why, maybe because they squirm around. :?

shes probably about 6 or 7 centimeters long, not including her big arms. i picked the smallest one in the tank when i bought her, hopning that i could watch her moult and grow bigger. anyone know how long these creatures live for?
