shrimp paralysis?

i was lookin at my tank today and i realized alot of shrimps disappeared, they died off =/. I found some adult shrimps looking like they were pickin on the java moss, but in fact they were dead. i don't have ammonia test kits to test but i'm sure its not ammonia. Its a 10 gallon half filled with growing java moss and java fern.

my only culprit is the calcium carbonate that i poured in there while feeding my 50 gallon tank. I had a little left so i thought it'd be good for the plants. I also dose some potassium sulfate in it. Do you think these can affect their health?

That's a good question. In my experience anything that dramatically changes water parameters affects shrimp. So, if you have changed nothing else, then the chemicals you added (one or both) might have had something to do with it.

okay its been almost 2 months since my lost... and my shrimps are growing back, but today i found another one froze at the food site. This one is pregnant too! should i be worried? i have no added anything, just weekly 25% water changes. however, i did remove a drift wood containing numerous (2 big and about 20 planlets) java ferns....

Have you read this article yet?:

Other than that I can't really help you all that much more with the information you provided. There are many reasons why a shrimp might just keel over and die...one of which could be just old age (especially if it's just one shrimp and all others are active and doing well).
