Crayfish changed color to match surroundings

Neat thing I noticed when I got crayfish #3 from a wild stream. First, I have 2 original crayfish who were dark colored when caught. Then I put them in a tank with light colored sand in June. They molted about 4 times each and have since gotten lighter, to match the light sand.

So I found crayfish #3, and noticed he's much darker than his mates, because the stream he came from has a dark colored bottom. So the environment might explain why the same species of crayfish have so many different shades.
