URGENT - HELP: Shrimps are dying one by one

Hi all,

I have a shrimp only tank (10 gallons) with tigers. Have been up for 5 months. I started with a dozen and now I have about 50ish of them.

About a week ago, I found a dead shrimp and on and off I have a dozen dead ones up to date. I have no clue why this is happening. I didn't introduce anything or changed my routine.

My water is around 7 PH, 3 KH, 77 F with a HOB filter running foams only.
I do a weekly water change with 'PRIME' in new water. I do add abit bicarbonate to keep the KH around 2.5-3.
I have moss and riccia in the tank and putting co2 (yeast generated) in the tank.

Just today, I put a carbon into my HOB and hope it will take away any harmful stuff in the water if there is any and I did a few water change in the pass few days (25% each).

Any help and suggestion would be appreciated.

This should give you some pointers:

Your CO2 might be one of the culprits here...

Mustafa,

I do agree with what you said but the co2 has been in place for 2.5 months and the shrimps were all fine in that condition.

That's where I am so frustrated - I did nothing out of ordinary. I feed them the same amount and same food, water condition is kept about the same through months. Population is growing and now drop to close to half left or less.

Just found another half a dozen dead shrimp this morning =( - heart broken.

Right now, I think I have changed too much water in a past few days and I will just take out my co2 just in case and stop water changing for a few days to a week. And see what will happen next.

Please keep the comment and suggestion coming, all will be appreciated.
Thank you.

mike!!, well u didnt tell me this was happening!! u should have called me man! well were u still having that little planaria problem?? cuz i found out that when planarias pop up or COME BACK ( in my position ) that means your ammonia is starting to go up. well with that said, i dont think CO2 is the matter thats casing the death of your shrimps, as you know, i got CO2 going in my tank as well, and all the shrimps are doing great.

you think you did too much water change, but i think it was the temparture that did the harm between the water changes, in a 10g a 25% water chage can make the Ph,Kh,Temp all jump at once, if not done slowly.

i also found 3 dead shrimps 2 days ago once i discovered lots of planarias are slowly popping up..and so i did water changes and now they are gone and the ammonia went back down to zero, i also think its due to your bare bottom tank, since all the bacteria live only in your filter, the things on the bottom of the tank just floats around when the shrimps swim buy, and when one shrimp dies, the tank goes bad fast, causing a chain reaction just like i had with my shrimps before.
