5 Year Update

Hello fellow shrimpers. I just wanted to give an update to my opae ula tank which I started over 5 years ago. I just recently did a 10% water change after not touching it for 5 years. I actually didn't do anything to the tank during the 5 years, no feeding, no cleaning, no water changes, etc only to...

Also, i realize there are lots of microorganisms i the household, ive looked at various things in the house, but what i saw in the...

Disturbing news

Hey guys, my opae tank is still doing well, except... I have a lot of angel hair algae and they are growing rapidly. I cant seem to get rid of it, and its tough to grab hold of and pull out. They are starting to look like cobwebs. The poor opaes get stuck in it and have a hard time getting out of it...

Re: bio-load

They say the bioload is very minimal (even though it seems like theyre dropping poop every other minute) i would say in a well established tank ex: 5 gallon 200 opaes should be okay. But having said that, i think the opaes might feel a bit uncomforatble it being that crowded.

Re: Progress updates

When your tank cycles, you will usually see a noticable spike in ammonia, nitrite, then nitrates, in that order. You probably have another 4 weeks to go. Are you using anything to help boost the process?

Question about egg clutch

Does anyone know how the eggs in the berried females clutch are held together? ive been observing a berried female and sometimes it looks like the eggs might fall loose.

Re: 1st Berried Female!

I cant believe it but ive got another berried female! I think there might be more, what luck, to have berried females with a 2 month old tank. I owe my success to knowlege gained on this forum, its members and to information obtained through fukubonsai. :smt004 I hope they all hatch well and survive!

Re: 1st Berried Female!

That's rather fast for a new setup. Congrats! If this is her first batch she may actually drop most eggs...and/or the larvae won't make it. But maybe you'll get lucky. :) Yes, i think this is her first batch, i havent seen her today, im guessing shes hiding in the rocks. I hope she doesnt drop her ...

Re: I like the look of the ecosphere, but.....

And honestly, 82 degrees probably wont kill them, but will be uncomfortable for them and can affect their longevity and breeding. Nope, doesn't. That temp is totally fine. My tanks get to over 88-92 degrees in the summer. At that point reproduction slows, but below that everything is fine. 80-82 is...
