Red-nose shrimp?! Get ready to run.....

Post by Acsuth »

...and drive out to Petsmart of all places!! I just went to look around and they had red-nose shrimp for $2.69 each...needless to say I bought all they had :-D They also had red ramshorns for $.99 each and a few ivory mystery snails mixed in with the golds for $1.25 each in case anyone's into those...woohoo! I love the rudolph shrimp! 8)

They had 8 -- I'm guessing I have about 3 males and 5 females! :-D

I'm curious. Does anyone manage to breed them ?
If yes, do they breed as many as the Red Cherry Shrimp ?

I have sucess in the cherries, yet to try the red-nose ?
Anyone ?

there was just a thread about them a few days ago -- they are probably much like the amano shrimp -- needing saltwater for the larvae to survive. Definately not quite as easy as cherries.

I find them very entertaining. They do a lot of swimming, and are often on the move around the tank. They make a good contrast to the other shrimps, and so I like to keep a few around. From what I have been reading, they might need brackish water to breed

See now that makes no sense filishy. My LFS gets all their fishies & shrimp from a breeder in Florida. So you should be able to find them there... :?

Well... I guess people here either do not know about FW shrimps or don't care about them. As a result, stores only stock what people want.

I have only seen japonicas and ghosts, nothing else. Maybe if I lived closer to Orlando I'd have a better chance but I need to take a 45 minute drive to get to the nearest "half-way" decent store and with my work it is kind of hard.

My luck... :?
