Wiggly worms in my opae ula tank?

Post by sea15823 »

I've had my tank set up for over a year and have never fed the system. I noticed 3 what look like wiggly worms floating at the top of the water. When the water is disturbed, they will start to wiggle and float down to a lower part of the tank. What are they?

I should add that I haven't ever seen any shrimp carrying any eggs.

Any chance you can post a picture of them? Sounds like you are describing mosquito larvae to me, but no way to be sure without a photo

Well...I scooped them out with a tiny Dixie cup and flushed them down. I'm a bit upset seeing as my tank has a cover, though it does have an air hole. Will this ruin my tank?

Assuming they were mosquito larvae I doubt they had any negative impact on the tank.

Do they swim like zigzag spiral in the swiming direction (ringed worm) or laterally (nematoda)?
