I finally got this one. It had been at my work for months. It came in as an electric blue but lost most its blue after a little while. It slowly gained some back but also gained some purple. I only use Estes' Marine Sand. It requires absolutely no cleaning but also is heavy and sinks immediately. It comes in multiple colors. I usually do a 50/50 black and white mix that looks very natural. There are a number of pictures in my PhotoBucjet page that show it.

But none of them need it? Obviously they need oxygenated water, but not air?

Any crayfish NEED any air? The owner at the LFS I work at says what he understands is that they need access to air (such as shallow water with a turtle platform). What would be the ideal substrate for crayfish? Right now I am specifically interested in electric blue (alleni seem to be the likely species for those simply marked 'electric blue crayfish') but may get others before long. I use sand in all my tanks and am planning on doing the same with these.
