cherry regression rate?
I have juvenile cherry reds that are starting to get eggs. I noticed one that I thought was a male has dark eggs underneath him/her. This cherry has no red coloration that I see. Has this cherry regressed back to the wildtype coloration? If so, if I breed with another shrimp in my tank will it's off...

shrimp can be sensitive to nitrItes, check for that if you can if you changed around your gravel, you may have affected your biological filter. If that's the case, you may be undergoing a 'mini-cycle' while the bacteria converting ammonia and nitrites build back up at the very least i would try freq...

without using chemicals, coral or bone is the best option for increasing your GH/KH and stabilizing your pH. Typically it doesn't rise rapidly...it usually takes some time for the calcium to start dissolving in the tank. If you want a quicker, more temporary fix that you can moderate more closely yo...

from my understanding, adding seashell/ crushed coral will likely raise your pH initially, but won't make it fluctuate (which is more of a concern). If you noticed your red cherries molting again then see how they do with the shell in. If they take a while to molt again look at the food supply avail...

i'd would be careful with the black skirts in my experience, even small black skirts will eat your shrimp. I placed a bunch of glass shrimp in a tank with them, the smaller ones (about the size of a cherry red) were eventually eaten by them. The smaller tetras would swim around with a half-swallowed...

does molting make shrimp (cherries in particular) more pale? The cherries I got from Mustafa (thanks again!) are all growing well. No matter when I look in there though, there's still 3 or 4 out of 14 that are very pale in color. I'm quite sure that they are different shrimp at different times too, ...

acclimating new shrimp
I am anticipating an order of cherry red shrimp. Is there a recommended way to acclimate new shrimp? Should I just float the bag for 15 minutes, then strain out the shrimp from the water and drop them in? Or should I drip in tank water into the bag first to acclimate them to any pH difference?
