Re: Amphipod infestation
I had a pretty bad infestation with my smaller tank. I stopped feeding for about 2-3 months. Like Mustafa stated, they will starve to death.

Re: Coworkers overfed Opae
At this point, all the nutrients have definitely permeated the water. I am not an expert, but I would try and suck up the bottom as much as possible with 1/4 - 1/2 water change.

Re: Green live stone/coral
I have a couple different tanks now and the algae will definitely grow with a steady light source. In my original tank, there is an algae rock that is actually hairy looking with strands of algae growing off it like a spiky haired haircut. I also have very thin, light colored, hair looking algae tha...

Re: Adding brackish water after mulitple water testings
I'm new to keeping aquariums, but salt never evaporates. You would lose salt slowly from the aquarium if you test with those tiny test tubes. Some salt would also be lost in a very slow way with strips. With a tank that small, I would just add more water with testing for salt levels once a month or ...

The crabs sound interesting. I wouldn't mind buying one or two.

Re: Another new Opae Ula setup
Sounds like they are doing good. My shrimp swam around a lot for about a week. Seemed like they were doing laps like it was the Olympics. Now they just pick at the rocks and sand mostly. When I add water every couple of weeks, they do the endless lap swimming for a couple of days usually. Good thing...

Re: My first molt!
I have around 15-16 in my 3 gallon nano tank that molt every other day. My shrimp never eat the molts as there is an abundance in algae. It's fun watching them zip around the tank like if they were racing each other. I used to have the fine algae, but for some reason they hated it as it impeded thei...

Re: The New Supershrimp Owner Experience. (Long post!)
Nice tank! Mine used to look nice, but it looks like a swamp now with algae on everything... I would just stop feeding altogether until your algae cover decreases noticeably, or even disappears almost entirely. The shrimp won't mind at all (quite the opposite), and you might actually start seeing s...

Re: Can I put dead white coral in a tank?
Thanks, I have been using these shrimp pellets that are 1.5mm, and they are fantastic. I threw a pellet in the nano-tank, hid it really well, and it has stayed together for three days before I took it out. I bought these specifically so they won't fowl the water easily. With the white live sand I ha...

Re: Okay... Gonna try an "accepted" set up.
Yep, it is definitely hard. The green fuzzy algae I can wipe off with my finger easily, while the purplish algae I have to scrape off with my fingernail. The sellers of the live sand I bought that I used with this nano-tank advertised that there was a very high success rate of coralline algae growth...

Re: My opae ula are dying.
I would recommend Instant Ocean Bio-Spira. I had a very similar experience where my shrimp almost died on a transfer to a new tank. I added this into the new tank to help it cycle faster.

Hey Rob,
With the crabs you have that have coralline algae on the shells, is the algae still alive in brackish water? Reason I am asking is that I have all green algae rocks in my nano-tank, and I noticed this week that there is purple algae growing on a few of them.

Re: Can I put dead white coral in a tank?
About two days after the water change, they are all doing good. The two that had seizures are still clear with no color changes, but are eating and acting normal. There was something in the water, possibly the original distilled water I used, or maybe the items I took out of the tank. Either way, th...

Re: Can I put dead white coral in a tank?
Put about eight of the shrimp into the nano tank and seems like something went wrong. Two of the shrimp started to go into seizures after about 30 minutes. I kept the live sand, and the algae coral rocks, removed the sea branch along with the dead white coral. I took out the two shrimp and put them ...
