Re: mech's opae'ula thread
So awesome! I wish you luck with breeding those banded shrimp. That really is a cool look, and that is one gorgeous shrimp! What size cubes are thoses? They look remarkably similar to the glass 2.5gals I just bought on sale. Thanks :) The cubes are 30litres each as we use that measure here in the U...

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank
Wow, thanks for the tips you guys! I don't have access to R/O water, so distilled from the supermarket will have to do. The sand actually arrived today, so I may attempt the move tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. I was so sad to lose so many little dudes due to a contaminant (totally realized...

Re: Seamlessly & Safely Upgrading a Tank
i wouldnt clean anything in tap water, just stick to putting some RO water in a bucket and washing what you need in that. I have that sand i its worth rinsing in RO water, its no where near as bad as normal substrate to clean but there is some bits in i hat just seem to float on top of the water whe...

Re: Found a dead shrimp, should I be worried?
Shrimps do just seem to die for no apparent reason, if you loose one in its own I wouldn't worry. Just test ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and SG. If all is ok then you just have to chalk it down to an issue with that particular shrimp I'm afraid.

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Went on for a good long while, usually when farm animals eat from the ground like that it's because they are lame I some way, but this shrimps legs are fine lol. Maybe they are lazy shrimp? I notice if they can't be bothered to swim from the top of the tank to the bottom on the substrate they just g...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Took this video when i saw a shrimp eating direct from the ocean rock, at first i thought that maybe it lost its legs/claws and needed to eat direct from mouth to food but it gets up and eats like the rest and continues to eat strange again. May be nothing but i wanted to share it. https://www.youtu...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Thanks, I haven't noticed any but I've got really small shrimp in the tank so I dunno what's happening. Unless I've missed the larvae... The tanks are in a spare upstairs bedroom.

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
Last night I did a water change on my large tank, as it needed it but I put about 10 - 15 large red shrimps in one of my cubes, and managed to net around 6 shrimps with clear bands and put them in my 2nd cube tank. It got hard to spot them after they all turned pale in my main tank so I will net the...

Re: mech's opae'ula thread
After I removed the shrimps in my two cubes and back into my community tank, I have been testing the water qualitys and the nitrite spike has disappeared so the tanks must be ready, I put one shrimp in each tank and they were not too happy or eating for a few days but after a week they both are nice...
