I have a suspicion i have a male and a female.... certainly i have one with HUGE front legs and one with normal, non huge ones....

However they are only approx half the stated adults size, and they have not shed in the last 3 months or so which is worrying me slightly.

They are active and feeding ...

You should really search although i can understand why people dont as teh search results can be very tedious to go through....

1/ They pretty much eat what they find but bearing in mind they are filter feeders and so cannot pick up, or pick at large foods, AND because you appear to want to keep ...

They seem pretty happy right now, tank light is on and they are both out and about, mooching, feeding, telling the eels and fish to go away....

I may invest in more hiding spots as the eels have teh same hiding requirements as the shrimp, plus they have had some form of marital dispute and whilst i ...

Yep and yep.... plenty bogwood, bag of peat in filter, range of places to go to, they like to be under teh bogwood (even in previous tank they didnt bother climbing) but they are picking places where teh current will take food to them.

Nurk...... this is so very straaaaange, the other tank (i have three), one has no algae at all, one has some blackish fuzzy algae but not much and its totally different (apart from colour) to this stuff.

Any ideas, even really vague ones would be good.

Still no signs of them moulting, and they still have pink patches on them where they would normally be grey/blue.

Tank inhabitants are 2 x shrimp, 2 x zebra eels (small-ish), and 10 x silver tip tetras.

Tank has a sand substrate an oversized internal filter, some live planting, and some bogwood.

Lighting is more off than on due to both the shrimp and the eels preferring a dimly lit tank.

My tank has some horrible black hairy sort of algae in it, whcih none of the inhabitants wish to eat....

I cant see any ingredients on the algae remover, although it says it 'may' harm aquatic snails.

Do i use it on a tank with two african filter shrimps in, or not.... (if i cant that means moving ...

I have a pair of these and they went through their first moult fine, both moulting within a few days of one another, both feeding well, active but not too active, etc etc.

And then about 3 weeks ago, they started to be 'odd'.

Not so active, not feeding, hidden together all curled up together ...

Mine have no probs climbing bogwood - i guess you might just have to experiment though - they probably will onlyl attempt it if its worth it to them in food terms.... my two dont do nothing for nothing lol

Guess it was a bit of wishful thinking on my part - store in question make a point though, of labelling things as wild caught, as they appaer to be able to charge MORE (and these guys were several £ cheaper than the previous one i bought frmo them).

Ive just come back here to find out more about shrimp.

The shrimp i posted about above did in the end, moult, regenerate his legs, but then he sadly died the day after. I guess it took too much out of him.

I now have a pair of smaller atya gabonensis who are waiting for a bigger tank to cycle ...
