Cajun Dwarf Crayfish - are they escapers?
I ordered some online and I heard that crayfish in general are escapers. I have a 40 gal tank for them and some other shrimp. If so then I guess I will have to get a lid for it, the original came with some really terrible lighting hood I threw out a long time ago. I know this is the wrong forum, but...

Re: Good ways to migrate shrimps
You need a filter and lights for any reasonable setup, trying to put them into an orange sized tank is a horrible joke. Ecosphere is already slowly killing them, don't make it even worse on them. The chance they will even survive the transfer is very low if the opening is that small.

Re: water parameters
You basically want everything to be zero, especially ammonia and nitrites. Nitrates can be a little above zero but any visible ammonia and your tank is not ready for shrimp. If it's a new tank I'd let it just sit there a couple months and make sure some algae is growing. Some plants and moss are goo...

Re: Mysterious die-off
Shrimp can get sick, too. Mainly, they are susceptible to bacterial infection. Symptons are generally weird behavior. This seems like a strong possibility here. Treatment is metrozadole.

Re: buying fire red shrimp
I probably wouldn't go to most of these to be honest. I bought some plants from bob's tropical some time ago and I was happy. I would consider buying shrimp there, but they don't seem to have particularly great deals or particularly great shrimp to be honest. Even his showcase fire red shrimp looks ...

Re: Funny smell from cycling tank
You mean a sea fan like a coral? That is probably the culprit. It might have been better to soak it in a bucket or your pool for a few days, then rinse it off. You can't really cycle a 1 gallon tank though. More like you are just waiting for some algae to start growing and for the algae to consume a...

I'd love to see some baby crabs! Did you get these guys online or what? Never seen them before but I am intrigued.

Re: Shrimp Questions
I keep ghost and cherry shrimp with danios and white clouds and otocinclus and halfbeaks and they do OK. The baby shrimp only pop out at feeding time, otherwise I never see them but the adults are always running around and they get ignored completely by the fish. But to mix them kind of requires a l...

Ghost shrimp male turned solid color
He seems to be doing OK, but he has become basically solid whitish with black markings. Does this mean he's unhealthy or dying, or is a a color variant or what? He was definitely clear until relatively recently...a week ago maybe?

Re: RED Malawa shrimp! :)
Fantastic news. I was going to get regular malawa shrimp but they sold out just before I tried to purchase. Will be even better if red ones are available sometime after the summer (it's getting too hot here to ship now anyway).

Re: Need help, shrimp dying. :(
Shrimp aren't like fish, they need super clean water and stable environment. 40 nitrate is a little high even for a regular fish tank. For shrimp it is way too high especially if it has accrued rapidly. You need to make lots of small water changes every day to get the nitrates down. Big ones will ma...

Re: Concerns about fishing line
You can use cotton thread. This will rot after a couple weeks but by then your moss will take hold.
Often I just press moss onto whatever I wanted it to stick to firmly and it will eventually take. That works for less precise jobs anyway.

Re: RCS tank problems
If there's lots of visible algae don't feed them at all until it's gone.
Overfeeding is usually the big problem with shrimp and you can keep a moderate population of shrimp in a planted tank with algae without ever feeding them - maybe 2-3 shrimp per gallon.
