Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Agreed, there will be no changes made in that tank for a while. I thought I had eliminated everything. I never suspected my RO water. From here on, nothing but distilled water will be used. Oddly enough, I was in my basement and it dawned on me, all my water pipes are copper. I have an API test for ...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
In my other tanks that are problem free I have decorative white rocks I purchased from my local fish store. I asked for limestone, they sold me a chunk of what they called "shelf rock" it looks like a hunk of coral. It is what they use in their salt water tanks for calcium carbonate. I had...

Re: UPDATE on new tank
Question, I had a jar with a metal twist on lid and a jar with a spring clamp( like the tall one from your photo, in the background) Both of them developed rust. Have you noticed this happening to your metal springs or lids?

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
This Wednesday the 7th, will make two weeks since I did the 90% water change. Since then I have only found about five dead, and that was early on. They are more and more acting like the shrimp in my other shrimp tanks. There are a handful yet that do not appear healthy, I will begin to remove them t...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....

There were 3 dead this morning, another 4-5 that are not looking well. We'll see if they pull through. I don't know if there is anything more to do other than wait.

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Thanks Varanus for the insight. I'm thinking it may be beneficial to mix in some aragonite once my current problem is resolved.

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hello Mustafa, The shrimp appeared a little better after doing the 2 gallon water change. I purchased more water and today I emptied the tank as low as I could scoop, leaving approximately an inch of water, and have been adding distilled water. Currently its about 1/2 full and I am beginning to see ...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
I did some reading over the Forum last evening, it seems as though many of you use argonite sand. Do you purchase the live sand or the dry sand? I was told by the fish store, argonite would cause my pH to skyrocket. My pH normally tests 8.6+. The color is hard for me to compare to the test chart, bu...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hi JennyPenny,
There is not a heater in this tank. The heater is in my 20 gallon. Thanks for the info, I will keep a watch on it.

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hello Varanus,
Thanks for the help. One main constant has been the use of my home RO. I had 2 gallons of distilled water on hand so I did a 2 gallon water change yesterday. Its hard to say whether or not there is a difference.

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hi Ace, Thanks for your response, I love the look of the Nanosphere 9, it's beautiful. Have you noticed any more odd behavior with your shrimp?

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hi Mustafa, Yes agreed, "something" is wrong. Ammonia is marginally high, between 0 and .25 right now. So I imagine its the "otherwise' I need to figure out. Question, If I do a 90% water change, won't that shock the shrimp even more? Wouldn't that be like placing them in an uncycled ...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hello Ace, Thank you for your condolences and advice, but I can't do that. You see, I had a die off last fall. I could not isolate the problem so I scrapped everything involved. Similar scenario. New shipment, new vase. Water, sand and decor taken from my established 20 gallon. I assumed with cycled...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hi Ken, No, every other tank is doing good, from the smallest quart size to the 20 gallon. All of them are in the same room. The "death tank" is placed right next to the other two big aquariums, so they share the same environment. The 20 does have a heater in it, but none of the others hav...

Re: Where shrimp come to die....
Hi Ace,
Was this a new setup?
Is this something you have done previously?
How are your shrimp acting so far?
