Hi Badflash, Thanks for your advice. I have read all the articles you mentioned thanks, although I must admit that I had forgotten that Red Cherry Shrimp prefer hard water. Originally I was told by my water company that my water was 'hard' (before I purchased the shrimp) but I recently took it to a ...

A few Red Cherry Shrimp/Water parameter questions

Hi everyone, sorry if these questions have been asked before - I did a search but didnt come up with anything. I bought six Red Cherry Shrimp about six weeks ago. They were all juveniles when I bought them (about 1-2cm) but seem to have grown and coloured up nicely in that time :) I have them in a s...

Actually, I have a question regarding metals and shrimp that probably best fits in this thread. I am thinking of getting some Riccia which comes in a metal mesh (to keep it submerged) The metal is coated in plastic, but it has a few bare ends. I dont know what the metal is, but would this exposed me...

Thanks Badflash, great info :)
So do you think I would be able to sustain a large enough population in a 6 gallon tank? (for shrimp food)
Also, how do you know when your 'density' of moina is at the right level?
Thanks again

Thanks for the info Badflash :D
Just a few questions:-
Does the water have to be heated? (any water left to stand in my home seem to end up at about 18oC)
How do you manage to siphon the bottom of the trash can if its on the floor?
Can you grow them in a 6 gallon tank?
Thanks in advance

I have seen my RCS moult. Its all over very quickly though, so its quite rare you actually get to see it happening. They seem to almost 'pop' out of their skin dont they! Its pretty amazing to watch :D

Sorry to bring up a slightly aging thread, but I have just recently brought some driftwood with Java Moss for my shrimp tank. It has been soaking in a spare tank with conditioned/de-chlorinated water for the past two weeks, and I have just now added it to my RCS tank - but they seem to be swimming r...

Thanks for your help, Unfortunately that is the only picture the seller has provided. Info from seller:- "Adult shrimp are between 8 and 10cm. The pic is a young adult, when fully grown colour may vary between reddish brown to chocolate brown. Good in a tropical comunity aquarium. Do not put wi...

My RCS swam around all day when I first got them, and I was quite worried abou them, but by the next day they had completely settled down. I think it was just the stress of a new environment, so unless you see any on their side etc I wouldnt worry just yet :-)

Thanks for your replies

I think we'll just stick with Red Cherry Shrimp for the moment - it seems like it will be the least stressful for them, and hopefully will lead to them breeding more. I am really looking forward to having little baby shrimp - so heres hoping... (fingers crossed)

Bad news im afraid, he passed away last night :( He seemed fine yesterday morning. Heres a picture of him then, which I was just about to post in this thread showing how the wounds edges had cleared up, and how he was feeding fine:- http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/5093/shrimpy028pt.th.jpg but the...

The redness seen in the picture has gone, and the edges have cleared up alot, but the hole is still there :( Hopefully he will be fine, i'll update this thread when he moults and let everyone k...
