I was just wondering about keeping shrimp in bottles...criminy. I was told it could be done, and was seeking a second opinion. My shrimp right now live in 2 gallon, 5.5 gallon, and 20 gallon filtered, completely live planted tanks. They may not get cleaned as much as I'd like them to, but the water ...

A 10 gallon is not practical for me, believe it or not. My room is filled with tanks already, and any empty ones are waiting for my baby geckos to hatch n about a week. They don't make some kind of birth control for shrimp, do they?

Like I said before, I read that...But ok, I guess I totally forgot that the guy who wrote it actually keeps the things...'doh! Ok, nm about that. So, as per the second part of my message, what can I do to take down the pH naturally? I don't want to use powders or drops...I'm just afraid it will fluc...

I agree with the fact that it is a small amount of space. I would just use them for grow out "bottles." I'm just being so overridden with cherries, my babies that I'm growing out are having babies...It's nuts.

And yes, I meant a 2 liter bottle.

Is pH all that important?

If I'm not trying to breed bee shrimp, will they do ok in 8.5 pH water? I will do all I can to keep them completely healthy, but I don't *need* to breed them. I read the information pages, and I didn't get a clear yes or no...Anyone have experience with this? I've never worried about pH before, and ...

I would still feed them, the fish get fed as well.

They had h20 test kits there, and the quality was great.

Any thoughts?

I wish I had the name of the stuff I got...I'll be back for the next meeting on the 18th, so I'll get the actual name. As it was explained to me (In simplistic terms) the clay soaks up excess nutrients, and these nutrients can be "unlocked" by plant roots. Seems to simple to me, but the wa...

I've found that Erythromycin works best for cyanobacteria, since it is in fact a bacteria. I don't believe this hurts inverts, at least that's what my pack insert says. I've used it on a tank with red claws in it, and they weren't hurt at all.

The cherries I have don't get water changes very often, 2 months between at least. I have babies coming out the wazoo.

The water quality stays excellent, between the live plants and baked clay which locks excess nutrients in. Or so I was told. I'll have to search for the links to these pages.

Tanks with no filtration

I went to a recent meeting of the local aquarium gardeners society here in town, and I was introduced to liter bottle gardening. They're just liter soda bottles with topsoil and baked clay as substrate, live plants, and fish. Usually 2 small platies. There's no filtration, no water changes, just top...

Keeping different species together

Hi, i'm new here! :smt006 I have lots of shrimp, and limited space. I really enjoy breeding the buggers, but my breeding geckos take precedence. So, I have: Green shrimp Cherries Bees and Rainbow shrimp--not sure what true species they are, I will have to get pics of them. One looks like a tiger, bu...
