Keeping different species together

Post by SilvrStar7 »

Hi, i'm new here! :smt006

I have lots of shrimp, and limited space. I really enjoy breeding the buggers, but my breeding geckos take precedence. So, I have:
Green shrimp
Cherries
Bees
and Rainbow shrimp--not sure what true species they are, I will have to get pics of them. One looks like a tiger, but is dark blue, and when in the right light is irridescent. The other one lacks stripes, but is the same coloration. They are ridiculously beautiful.

Right now I have some bees in with baby cherries, greens by themselves, and cherries w/ the rainbows. (3 tanks) The rainbows have been w/ the cherries for months, but they have not reproduced, and i'm pretty sure at least one is female. Do they carry/drop eggs even if they're not fertilized?

I just did some searching on the Varieties page, and see that the bees need acidic water. My water here is super alkaline, the pH is around 8.5.

So, what I'm getting at here...

Which ones should I put together? What's the possibility that the greens and cherries will interbreed? Should the rainbows be switched to acidic water? (I plan to do that asap for the bees.)

I want to do what's best, but have limited space, like I said.

Sorry for the rambling post, I just have SO many questions!!! I'm just super stoked that there's a place I can get them answered. :smt023

Hello SilverStar7

Welcome to this forum

Red Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina sp.) and Green Shrimp (Carina cf. babaulti ) Will not interbreed.

The Rainbow Shrimp (Indian Dwarf Shrimp) as the Varieties Page reads
Needs soft to medium Hard, Alkaline water, not soft acidic water.

I suggest , do a little more reading in, Shrimp Varieties , Articles.
And do a searh in the other posts. There is alot of good information.

Have A Great Day
