Re: Molting?

Nice! Keep up the good work and post pics if you can. I would however remove the live plants. They’ll slowly die off and poison the water.

Re: New tank started 11-17-2017 after broken ecosphere.

You’ll be fine. The shrimps eat the microgoranism you can’t see. I have specs of algae all over my glass. Very tiny. The snails and shrimp pick at it. Even if you can’t see it, they’re still eating.

Re: White Fuzz/Hair on rocks?!?

Thanks MrsT! Yeah it’s on every rock and coral. I did notice that it was a slight tint of green when looking at it with a magnifying glass. Hopefully it’s not harmful or doesn’t get out of control.

White Fuzz/Hair on rocks?!?

Took a look at my tank today and I noticed there’s a white fuzz growing on my lava rocks and coral. Anybody have any experience in this area?!? Should I be concerned? Tank is roughly 3 months old. Shrimps and snails are normal and active. There’s spots of algae dots all over the place and they feed ...

Sucks that you got a DOA. But the molt is a good sign. Your tank is looking good btw

Re: questions about supplies

Thank you SuperProofer! :D I’ll be sure to remove the plastic seal and leave the new lid askew. I may drill a few holes too. I’ll stay away from polyurethane for now, unless I hear from someone here that they have used it and it’s safe. Otherwise, It’s not worth the risk. Thanks again :) Personally...

Re: First timer in Opae

Seems like your shrimps are ok. Even if they don’t change to a red color doesn’t necessarily mean anything. They can still be happy and swimming about and grazing. Some of mine stayed translucent or a hint of red while others are full blown red. If you disturb them then they’ll turn clear but turn b...

Re: First Tank! Q&A, Stories and Moments Thread

Your tank is ready. Went thru the same stages you described. Both my tanks have hardly and visible signs of algae but the snails and shrimp are feeding. One of my tanks did end up with specks all over the glass and I have baby snails. You can go ahead and order your shrimps. As for your light source...

Re: How to add supershrimp

I bought my black sand from petsmart. I think it was the nation geographic brand. Black sand substrate, not live or anything. It’s almost like very small gravel, not fine as sand. The shrimps pick it up and filter thru it. Does it say on the bag that its actual coral/aragonite? I assume you are mor...

Re: How to add supershrimp

Seems like you did a lot of things wrong. Just follow the guide on this site on how to set it up. You have to use the correct salt, no live anything, no other plants although some would disagree. Gotta let the tank cycle for like a month or two before adding the shrimps. I bought the algae and snail...

Does this also mean that crushed coral as substrate would do to "buffer" the water?
Yes

Re: Stressed shrimp?

Too much disturbance will stress them out. My shrimps turn pale in color when they’re stressed. Goes from red to transparent/pale. But after like a few hours or overnight they turn back to red. A water change can cause that especially if you’re pouring the water and it’s splashing and what not. I tr...
